To order IC Cores you need to specify the finish and the keyway. The cores come furnished with 2 keyblanks.
We stock the standard 6-pin commercial core, but you can also special-order the 7-pin version. These come from the factory with a 4 week lead time (nothing comes quickly from the factory).
You need to use a Control Key in order to insert or remove the Core. If you have other Cores already you can use the same Control Key. You only need to make sure the Cores and the Control Key are the same keyway type.
If you are ordering IC Cores for the first time, you will need to buy a separate Control Key. You can add that option above. We will make sure the Control Key matches the keyway you specify.
Some of the keyways we stock are listed on the order form, but not all. You'll need to call to order a keyway if you don't see it listed as an ordering option above.
Keyways are very difficult to determine by looking at a picture.
Look on your key to see if the keyway may be stamped on it.
Even better, find some old paperwork that indicated the keyway you require.
It may be an old box of keyblanks that were ordered or even an order for some locks.
You can't guess at keyway so get some verification of your exact number before ordering.
Control Keys have only one purpose: to insert or remove an IC Core.
Control Keys are longer than standard keys (change keys).
The tip on the end of a Control Key is used to unlock a retaining mechanism that holds the Core in place.
Turning the Control Key ''unlocks'' the retaining mechanism, allowing you to insert the Core.
When you release the key, the mechansim springs back into the locking position.
