We stock Corbin Russwin exit devices with the M54 mounting option.
All this really means is that through bolts ship with the devices.
Corbin Russwin uses various ''M'' numbers to designate product options.
Example Options:
M54 = Through Bolts (sex bolts) included
M52 = Cylinder Dogging
M04 = Torx Head Screws included
Fire-Rating is an option available on exit devices.
Standard devices do not come fire-rated.
Corbin Russwin Examples:
ED5200 - Not Rated
ED5200A - 3 Hour Fire Rated
ED5200B - 90 Minute Fire Rated
You can see how Corbin Russwin adds either an ''A'' or a ''B'' to indicate fire ratings.
This matches the door industry's terms of A Label or B Label door.
Fire-rated doors require fire-rated hardware. If you know your door is rated then you must buy rated hardware.
Be sure you know if rated hardware is required before spending the extra money it costs.
Notes:
1] Fire-Rated doors and frames contain a Label noting they are rated.
2] Fire labels often come from a company called Warnock Hersey.
3] If your door leads to the exterior it does not need to be fire-rated.
4] Fire-rated exit devices cannot have the Dogging feature.
The Dogging Feature comes standard on all non-rated exit devices.
Dogging means to hold the bar down so the latch remains in the retracted position.
Activating:
1] Push on the bar
2] Insert dogging key and turn
3] The bar will stay depressed and the latch remains retracted
When the device is ''dogged down'' the door can swing freely as no latch is holding it secure.
A gust of wind can blow the door open.
The reason people use the Dogging Feature is to temporarily provide access from the outside.
Example:
A restaurant often takes deliveries through the back door which is commonly locked with an exit device.
During deliveries, the door can be "dogged down" to provide access.
After deliveries are complete, the door can go back to its normal position by using the key again to remove dogging.
The standard dogging key is a Hex Key, which looks like an Allen Wrench.
You can also order optional Cylinder Dogging which requires a mortise cylinder and key.
We stock some models with Cylinder Dogging, but you must call for these as these are only stocked in small quantities.
Rim devices are used on single doors.
They can also be used on double doors, but only if they have a mullion.
Rim devices use a single latch that attaches to a surface-mounted strike at the side of the frame.
This style of latch is called a Pullman Latch.
A standard length device is called a 36'' Device.
The actual device is not 36'' long but instead fits a door up to 36'' wide.
You can also buy a longer version of the device that fits doors up to 48'' wide.
We stock these longer devices in a few finishes but they are stocked in small quatities.
That is why they are not listed on our web site. You'll need to call to order a longer device.
Specifying:
Corbin Russwin uses the following codes for length:
WO36 = Fits doors up to 36''
WO48 = Fits doors up to 48''
You can cut down the devices in the field for odd sized doors.
A 42'' door, for example, would involve buying a WO48 device and cutting it down to fit the 42'' door.
